Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. (John 14:1)

Jesus said…”I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies. (John 11:25)

The Association of Baptist Churches joins together in mourning the death of Rami Khader Ayyad from Gaza Baptist Church who was killed the first week of October, 2007 as a martyr for the cause of Christ. This terrible act of hate committed against Rami for his faith has shocked and saddened not only the tiny Christian community of Gaza but the world-wide community of believers. The ABC offers its deepest condolences to Rami’s wife and children and to all the Ayyad family in this time of loss. The ABC is currently taking donations for the Ayyad’s.

Botrus Mansour and Shadi Khoury, two Nazareth lawyers connected to Advocates International, sent a letter to President Mahmoud Abbas, current president of the Palestinian Authority (Fatah) and to former Prime Minister Mohammed Haniya (Hamas), asking them to investigate the death of Rami and locate his killers. They also sent letters written and signed by Human Rights leaders from around the world supporting government intervention in finding Rami’s killers thereby ensuring additional government protection for the Christian minority in Gaza (3,200 people from a total population of 1.4 Million people).

We are reminded from 1 Thess. 4:13-14: Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. We have our continuing hope in Christ but are sad for those who remain like Proverbs 6:17 and have hands that shed innocent blood. We pray that God’s love will continue to shine through the death of Rami, as it was manifested in Christ Jesus. May His love touch all hearts in this country, whether Christian or Muslim.
